I experimented with taking automated backups on my new 500 GB hard disk today. Kewl!
The Human race has sent its representatives to the Moon, but still hasn’t been able to invent hard disks that don’t crash. So much for technological advancement. Apparently, google’s IT strategy is based on open-source software running on low-cost hardware, in which frequent failures are expected and catered for. Because failure is an assumption built into the system, no one is running around pulling their hair when something *does* fail. How elegant. Read more about it here: Google’s Three Rules.
