The Participatory Culture Foundation works on the development of Miro, which is a free open-source desktop video application that is designed to make mass media more open and accessible for everyone. From the screenshots, it looks so seamless it’s almost too good to be true.

VirtualDub is not only a free, powerful video processing application, it is also one of the most cleanly written applications that I’ve ever come across. An outstanding example of quality software: zen-like user interface, stable, fast and adaptable.

Video technology initially fascinated me in school for reasons I can’t write about here ;-) It later fascinated me because of the fact that anything to do with video was either very CPU-intensive or very disk space-intensive. It now fascinates me because of the potential of parallel/distributed computing in video processing.

Oh, did I mention I also like watching movies, too?

This Binary Universe

Electronic music artist BT’s fifth studio album This Binary Universe was probably the first of its kind. It was composed and produced specifically for 5.1 channel audio, and was accompanied by a DVD featuring videos by a collection of computer artists and animators.
