Day 062 – Days Go By

_Captain’s Log, StarDate 2007.09.06-00.43_

The Sun is rising later and later and setting earlier and earlier… the days are about 2-3 hours shorter than when I came here in July. Fortunately, I’m more of a night person so it suits me just fine. I just can’t seem to be able to get myself out of bed when the Sun is shining outside and I can’t seem to be able to get myself into bed when it isn’t.

I spoke to my partner-in-bar-crime Ankur today and he surprised me with good news about his new job. We’re finding geeky stuff to do together when I get back… like the ultra-cool Lego Mindstorms NXT!

Day 061 – A Birthday Party

_Captain’s Log, StarDate 2007.09.05-00.34_

We celebrated a rather loud birthday party in the hotel today. The hotel people very thoughtfully showed up with a small cake and sparklers to shut us up ;-) My sleep deprivation is slowly but surely reaching a point where I might need another lifetime to make up for all the sleep I’ve lost in this one!

For the first time since college, my computer (now a laptop) was part of the celebrations, pumping out music for the masses. I miss the good old days when we used to cart around bulky CRT monitors and massive CPU towers to each others’ places for parties and “Pappu DJing” These days a puny little iPod Shuffle can do what we needed 2 computers to do back then…

Day 060 – Janmashtami

I went with a few friends to the ISKCON Temple today to celebrate Janmashtami, the “birthday” of Lord Krishna. The number of people at the Temple was fantastic and their enthusiasm and energy was boundless. I met some more very nice people and learnt some more surprising facts about life in general and in Canada in particular. We got back at around 2 in the night. It was an experience unlike any other I have ever had. I’m usually the type to drop my mother at the Temple and go out for a drive or something and come pick her up later. I think this was the first time I actually stayed in a Temple for so long and so late. Imagine doing this in a foreign country of all places! If things keep going this way I might actually end up buying a kurta after all :-)

Day 059 – Broken Back

Thanks to long and cramped bus ride back home, I have a stiff neck… a very stiff neck. Yesterday afternoon, when I was drifting in and out of sleep in awkward positions while listening to Pink Floyd on my iPod and watching the scenery go by, it felt like one of the best times of my life… but there’s a price to pay for everything!

I spent the day doing the laundry and getting other random things in order. In the evening we had a potluck with people coming from rooms far and wide with their food and/or drink in hand.
